Local and responsive
We are based nearby in Albrighton and work remotely first, with onsite visits across the West Midlands and Shropshire available where they genuinely help. You deal directly with an accomplished ethical hacker with 25 years across IT and cyber security. Solusec is CREST-accredited, a Cyber Essentials and IASME Cyber Assurance Certification Body, and our track record is independently verifiable. No sales team, no jargon.
Cyber security support in Coventry
Not every organisation in Coventry needs a certificate. Plenty need someone senior to look at what they actually have and say plainly which risks are real. Given advanced manufacturing around vehicles, propulsion and electrification, with a substantial research and prototyping presence alongside it, the honest answer is often that the exposure is smaller than feared in one place and larger than expected in another.
What we typically find is highly capable engineering environments deliberately kept outside central IT control, which is a defensible choice but not one that survives a scoping conversation unexamined. That is not a failing, it is what happens when a business grows faster than the systems supporting it. The useful work is deciding which of those gaps actually matters given who you are and what you hold, rather than fixing everything at once.
We work as consultants, not as a platform vendor, so we are not trying to move you onto a monthly licence. Coventry is under an hour from us, and most engagements here start with an on-site scoping visit. Where this turns into ongoing work it is usually fractional CISO support or SOC support over your existing tooling.

Engineering environments and the limits of central IT
Coventry’s automotive and advanced engineering businesses tend to run two estates that only pretend to be one. There is the corporate network, managed properly and patched on a schedule, and there is everything attached to the engineering function: test rigs, measurement equipment, controllers, machines with a vendor support contract that forbids changing anything.
Keeping that second estate outside central IT control is a defensible engineering decision. The problem is that it is rarely written down as a decision, so nobody owns it, and the segregation that everybody assumes exists usually turns out to be a shared switch and some optimism.
Testing that properly means agreeing in advance what must not be touched. We scope around production rather than through it, and where something genuinely cannot be tested live, we say so and look at it another way instead of pretending the result covers it.
Prototype data is the asset nobody classifies
In an engineering business the crown jewels are frequently a CAD directory, a test dataset or a tooling drawing, and they are almost never classified as sensitive in any policy. They sit on a share that half the organisation can reach because somebody needed access to one file in 2019.
Before buying anything, it is worth answering two questions. Which directories would genuinely damage the business if a competitor had them, and who can currently open them. The answer to the second is usually larger than anybody expects, and narrowing it costs nothing.
Flow-down from the automotive tier structure
Automotive supply is layered, and security requirements travel down the layers with a lag. A tier one supplier that accepted a reputation and a handshake five years ago now has an assurance process, and it applies to tier two, which applies it to tier three.
What arrives at the bottom of that chain is often a questionnaire written for an organisation ten times the size, and the honest answer to several questions is that the control does not apply. Saying so clearly, with a sentence explaining why, lands better than leaving boxes blank or inventing a policy document. We can read one of these with you and work out which answers need actual work and which need a sentence.
Coventry’s universities and the organisations that come out of them
Two universities and a substantial research and development presence mean a steady flow of small, technically capable organisations with valuable intellectual property and no security function. The pattern is consistent: strong engineering, weak account hygiene, and a cloud estate that grew by whoever needed what.
For an organisation at that stage, a penetration test is usually premature. Getting multi-factor authentication enforced everywhere, administrative rights separated from day-to-day accounts, and a backup that has actually been restored from will do more for the risk than a report will.
Distance and how we work
Coventry is under an hour from Albrighton, which means on-site attendance is practical when it earns its place. Most testing runs remotely because remote testing is not a compromise for the majority of scopes, and we do not add travel to a quote for anywhere in the West Midlands.

Common questions
What cyber security services do you offer in Coventry?
The full range: penetration testing (including AI and LLM), Cyber Essentials and IASME certification, SOC consulting and support, incident response and vulnerability management.
Are you local to Coventry?
We work remotely first, with onsite visits across the West Midlands available where they help.
How do we get started?
Book a free call. We will tell you honestly what you need and what you do not, agree a fixed price, and move fast. No obligation.
Can you test without touching the production line?
Yes, and that is the normal arrangement. Scope is agreed before anything starts, including what must not be touched and what happens if something unexpected responds. Where a system genuinely cannot be tested live, we say so and assess it another way rather than quietly leaving it out of the report.
Our tier one customer has sent a security questionnaire. Can you help?
Send it over. A good proportion of these are written for much larger organisations, and the useful work is separating the questions that need real change from the ones that need a clear sentence explaining why a control does not apply. Leaving boxes blank is what causes the follow-up call.
We hold CAD and test data for a customer. What should we do first?
Find out who can currently open it. In most engineering businesses the answer is a great deal more people than anyone expects, because access was granted for one file years ago and never reviewed. Narrowing that costs nothing and removes more risk than most purchases would.
We are a small spin-out. Is a penetration test the right first step?
Usually not. At that stage the bigger wins are enforced multi-factor authentication, separating administrative accounts from everyday ones, and proving a backup restores. A test on an estate nobody has tidied produces a long report and not much progress.
